The REST API in theory

The Representational State Transfer, which stands for REST, is an architectural style of API that is intended to provide a lightweight form of communication between the parties (consumer and producer) and thus create an optimal solution for services with a high volume of operation like the WordPress CMS.

By combining an architectural style of REST and JSON, the WP API is composed, which yields a great tool used by developers that can share data from their WordPress websites to other applications or services. The WP API will allow the actions of creating, reading, updating, and deleting data from a site, specifically posts, users, pages, media, comments, and so on. Overall all kinds of possible content can be manipulated by using the WP API.
