Competency learning definitions


Competency learning is an approach to learning that sets out a set of criteria that are learning outcomes corresponding to a course, and also to the outcomes of a program.

Competency learning is often required by regulatory agencies or governing bodies to assure consistency in schools and learning organizations.

Thus, it is often necessary to tie a course outcome to one of the competencies, and to make it clear that when the learning outcome is achieved in the course, the competency has been satisfied.

External affirmation of the competency having been achieved can appear in the form of badges that are generated upon successful completion of an activity. They can also be achieved by a report that is generated directly in Moodle within a competency framework.
