Variables and Advanced Actions

Using Smart Guides

The first of these tools are the Smart Guides. Smart Guides make it very simple to align various objects together. In this section, you will return to slide 8 of the takeTheTrain.cptx file and precisely align the Character image so it is located exactly in the vertical middle of the train image that sits on its right:

  1. Return to the Chapter04/takeTheTrain.cptx project and use the Filmstrip to navigate to slide 8.
  2. Open the View menu.
  3. Make sure the Show Drawing / Smart Guide option of the View menu is enabled (a checkmark should be visible in front of the menu item). If not, enable it now.
  4. Select the Character image you imported in the previous section and move it slowly toward the top of the slide. When the Character image is aligned with another object, you will see a horizontal and/or vertical green dotted line. The Character image will briefly snap to that line, allowing you to align the two objects together. This dotted green line is a Smart Guide. These Smart Guides...
