Gathering statistics

This section will teach you how to set up and interpret Moodle statistics.

Moodle has a built-in Statistics module, which is deactivated by default because the component is very resource-hungry in terms of disk space usage and, more importantly, memory usage.

Important note

Only use the Statistics module if you require the information and can accept some potentially significant performance reduction.

Select Enable statistics under Site administration | General | Advanced features and configure it by navigating to Site administration | Server | Statistics, where the following parameters are available:

  • Maximum processing interval: After enabling the Statistics module, Moodle utilizes the logs to derive statistical information. Here, you need to specify the time that Moodle should go back by to gather the stats. Be aware that this is quite a resource-intensive operation.
