Using Videos in the Classroom

The subject matter will play a role in determining how to use video, and how much detail (if any) to pay to production values.

Using video effectively requires good planning, and some specific ideas about the goals you would like to achieve. In addition to the actual video, students should be expected to learn from the process of making the video. During video-based projects, students should be blogging about their process and their progress, sharing bookmarks on their research, and even constructing short audio podcasts about the project. These points of reflection will provide a more complete picture of the student's work over the course of the project, and will also help to reinforce one of the most important lessons of video production: people get better at something by thinking about how they want to achieve their goals, and the means that they are using to achieve them.
