Planning your wholesale strategy


In this chapter, you saw two of the main strategies for creating a wholesale version of your store. Both strategies used customer groups to separate your wholesale customers from your other customers. So, whichever strategy you choose, you will want to:

  1. 1. Create a customer group for wholesale customers.

  2. 2. Advertise your wholesale program using a static block.

  3. 3. Explain your wholesale program using a CMS page.

  4. 4. Require wholesale customers to log in to the store, to see the wholesale pricing.

  5. 5. Use a tax rule to make all purchases by a wholesale customer non-taxable (depending upon local laws).

After you do these things, you must make a strategic decision: will you use tiered pricing or catalog price rules to offer the wholesale prices? Tiered pricing has the advantage of enforcing a minimum quantity on the wholesale purchases. However, it can take a long time to set up tiered pricing for every item in your catalog.
