Creating a shopping cart price rule and coupon


Remember that a shopping cart price rule will apply to all the products that meet its criteria, after those products are added to the shopping cart. The products that trigger the shopping cart price rule can be different from the products that are affected by it. For example, we will build a shopping cart price rule that applies a 10 percent discount to a coffee grinder, when it is ordered with a coffee press. The rule is triggered by the presence of the coffee grinder and the press in the cart together. It applies the discount to one of those products: the grinder.

Getting ready

Before you create a shopping cart price rule, you must decide which products you want to trigger the rule, and which products you want to affect. Then, you must determine how you will identify those products. Will you use the SKU? The name? The category? An attribute?
