Securing your files


Assigning roles and permissions to a particular content is not very much different from assigning the same to a particular space. The difference is that once you assign some rights to a user for a space, the rights are automatically inherited to all the contents and sub-folders of that space; whereas, in case of content, this applies to and affects only that particular content.

How to do it...

Let's now explore how to assign permissions to a group. Create a new user named, say, william.jones. Also for this example, we will consider the AdUniverse Whitepaper.pdf document we have uploaded earlier. As in the previous case, this user won't have any rights to the space Chapter 3 and to this document— only read-only access would be there.

We will now try to assign permissions to the group Alfresco Cookbook Authors to this space. As you know, assigning permissions to groups actually translates to assigning the same permissions to all users under that particular group.
