Time for action - how to get search-friendly URLs


So there are big benefits for completing this Time for action. We need to make a minor modification to the files on our website and then tell PrestaShop to enable friendly URLs. Here goes:

  1. 1. Click on the Preferences tab then scroll down to Friendly URL and click on Enable. Remember to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Save.

  2. 2. Click on the Tools tab and then Generators. You will see the following option:

  3. 3. Despite the message saying the tool will generate a .htaccess file, it will only actually do so if there is a blank one already there waiting to be generated. This is easy. Open Windows Notepad or something equivalent and save a blank document as .htaccess. Now use FTP to transfer it to the main prestashop folder.

  4. 4. Now click on the Generate .htaccess file button.

  5. 5. That's it. Check out your friendly URLs. Now it is possible that this didn't work! It is even possible that you now get an error when you try to view your store...
