In Joomla! 1.5, it was possible to accidentally remove things in the backend. You could inadvertently delete other items, such as sections or categories, by just one unlucky click of the mouse.
Joomla! 1.6 features a new safety system to prevent backend users deleting articles and menu items by mistake. It's comparable to the trash can system found on most computer operating systems: to delete items, you send them to the trash can, and to delete them permanently, you empty the trash. Previously, this two-step trashing was only implemented for menu items and articles. Now, any item that you want to delete has to be deleted in two steps. This is a great safety feature.
Moreover, the steps involved trashing, deleting, or recovering have changed a little since Joomla! 1.5. Let's find out how this works.
