In Chapter 8, VirtueMart Theme Anatomy, we saw all the building blocks of a theme: theme class, theme configuration, images, templates, theme JavaScript, and theme stylesheets. To create a new theme, you can customize any one block or a combination of these blocks. There is no restriction on how you customize them. However, customizing the images and stylesheets can be done separately from the rest of the building blocks. Also, changes in images and stylesheets usually do not have big upgrade issues. So, you should feel free to do customizations of this kind without much worry. If your customizations are limited to only these two categories, you can do it in the default
theme without creating a new theme.
