Converting traffic into followers


Traditionally, selling products on websites could be thought of like a pitcher throwing fast balls to a batter. As the ball zips by the batter, he takes a swing. Some balls he hits, some he misses, but the ones he misses carry on past, never to return. In the same way, a potential customer visits the site and either purchases something (a hit) or leaves (a miss) without making a purchase and probably never to return. This baseball model is not what you want.

Instead, it is much better to think of your blog as a black hole. Each planet and star is a potential customer with a bit of money to spend. Once a star has fallen in towards the black hole, it may well miss and zip on past, but because the of the black hole's gravity, the star's trajectory will curve and fall back again. This is effectively an orbit, and what you end up with is a whole galaxy full of stars and planets spinning around the black hole with a steady stream of matter being gobbled up by...
