Roles within Blackboard Learn


Users within our Blackboard Learn environment normally won't find themselves without some type of role attached to their user account. These roles control what a user can do within our instance. There are three different types of roles:

  • Institutional role type: This role type associates the user accounts with what type of users they are within our organization. As the course role type determines how a course appears to a person, the institutional role type determines how a larger community appears to the user. Most users will be associated with a student institutional role, while some may find themselves in faculty or staff roles. These roles are rarely used to control access within Blackboard Learn, but closely control access to items with the Blackboard Community system.

  • System role type: Unlike with institutional and course roles, system role types give only specific users the ability to access the System Admin tab and portions of the Blackboard Learn environment...
