Manually tracking the explosion


Play back this short clip now, and you will see a large explosion that has a certain reality to it; however, as the explosion happens, the two explosive halves do not line up correctly. The explosion also has a slightly flat feel to it, as though it's not really part of the scene (which technically it isn't). In this section, you will manually alter the track (keyframe the position) of both clips, and add a garbage matte, so the explosion appears to go behind the corner of the house.

Engage Thrusters

Keyframe the explosion to match the scene by following these steps:

  1. Set the Timeline as the active panel, and move the Timeline indicator to one frame into the Detonation03.avi clips on Video 4 and Video 5.

  2. Select the Detonation03.avi clip on Video 4 and toggle ON key frames for Position to set a keyframe at this point.

  3. Move the Timeline indicator to 7 frames from the start of the Detonation03.avi clip on Video 4. Here, you can clearly see the two clips are misaligned...
