Challenges and lessons learned can be summarized with the statement'the devil is in the details'. The project team had a clear idea of the Oracle architecture, new processing design, integration interface points, and transactions flowed. What was lacking were details regarding the file names, the file definitions, message formats, application integration specifics, the exact number of data integration points, and many other small but important details such as the copybooks for the VSAM files. The project consisted of many small tasks which made it easy to manage completion of tasks. If a couple of tasks slipped a few days this would be fine; the problem was that when you have many small tasks, all slipping, this adds up to a significant increase in project effort.
