Chapter 11. Protecting Your Virtualization Environment

Last but not least. This phrase is excellent for this final chapter. During the journey to this last chapter, you learned many Hyper-V concepts and features. Some of these features can help you to protect your environment from a disaster, such as HA with a failover cluster and Hyper-V Replica. None of these features will protect your virtualization environment from data loss, though.

Note that HA will only protect against host hardware failure. You can even use the failover cluster to monitor application health inside the VM, but there is nothing to be done if a file is deleted, or if the VM disk crashes.

Hyper-V Replica is an excellent choice to recover the VM as fast as you can when a disaster occurs on the datacenter. With Hyper-V Replica, you can run an exact copy of the VM, at a given point in time, on another host on a different site. Hyper-V Replica can't, however, easily recover files to a different location.
