Summary

In this chapter, we took a major step beyond local Kubernetes and explored what it means to run containerized applications in the cloud. We began by examining why most organizations choose managed Kubernetes services instead of operating clusters themselves—offloading control-plane maintenance, upgrades, and HA to the cloud provider while retaining full control over their workloads.

We then deployed our TaskBoard application on the three leading managed platforms—Amazon EKS, Microsoft Azure AKS, and Google GKE. Despite differences in setup and tooling, we saw that the Kubernetes manifests remained identical across all environments. This demonstrates Kubernetes' greatest strength: portability and consistency. The same application, the same YAML files, and the same declarative model worked everywhere.
