Hardware upgrades

Tuning may not always be enough to obtain the required performance, particularly on a busy system that is using nearly all of its hardware resources. Nowadays, systems typically share resources through schema and database consolidation and, of course, cloud! So, what can be done to improve performance? Let's take a look at some of the new hardware options available that address data throughput.

Solid-state disks

To achieve sustained performance for the source and target database, GoldenGate,the application, and the overall user experience, a hardware upgrade may be inevitable. In recent years, huge developments have been made in the area of storage with the advent of the solid-state disk (SSD).

SSD comes in two distinct flavors: RAM-based or flash-based. The RAM-based technology has been around for a number of years and continues to provide the best performance. However, given the relative low cost, vendors such as EMC Hitachi, and SanDisk offer high performance flash arrays...
