The concert and cybersecurity analogy – concert security for the digital stage
As an analogy, imagine you’re attending an Ed Sheeran concert: a massive, high-profile event with tens of thousands of fans. The concert represents a digital network, the attendees are the data packets and users, and the stage (with the performing artist) is the core data or main servers:
- Ticket checks at entry represent firewalls. Before you enter the venue, your ticket is checked. This ensures that only authorized attendees get inside. Similarly, firewalls act as the first line of defense, allowing only legitimate traffic to pass through.
- Bag and body scans are like antivirus and malware scans. Security personnel will check bags and sometimes use metal detectors to ensure no harmful items get into the concert. Likewise, antiviruses and malware scans look for harmful software or files trying to enter the system.
