The Definitive Guide to OpenSearch
By :
If you’ve been following along, and worked through the examples, you’ll have all of the prerequisites you need in place. If not, and you want to follow along in this chapter, please review Chapter 2, and follow the steps to deploy OpenSearch. The examples in this chapter run on OpenSearch deployed with Docker Desktop on a laptop. The code for these examples is in the ch10 folder in the book’s GitHub repository.
Resource requirements and trade-offs
Vector search algorithms make heavy demands on resources, especially Random Access Memory (RAM). The code in this chapter was tested on a laptop with a total of 32 Gibibytes (GiB) of RAM, running Docker Desktop with 16 GiB of dedicated RAM. Because RAM is limited, the examples use smaller models that need less RAM. However, these smaller models are less accurate, giving poorer results than larger models. When you build your application, you will be faced with a trade-off between cost and accuracy...
