Introduction

Backgrounds are usually relegated to the last part of the design process of a website. Once the general layout is defined, we just take some elements from it, mix and twist, and come up with a background that fits the design.

In this chapter, we are going to create several images that can work as backgrounds for any site, maybe directly or with some changes, but always starting from scratch—just a new file and no site at all in our minds. This is a great exercise, not only to develop our GIMP skills, but also to discover that there are always different ways to start designing a website.
