The Raspberry Pi camera module

You were introduced to the Raspberry Pi camera module in Chapter 4, Getting into Robotics. It can be used to take high-definition video as well as still photographs. This can be attached via a 15 cm ribbon cable to the CSI port on Raspberry Pi. It's easy to use for beginners, but has plenty to offer (such as time-lapse, slow-motion, and other video cleverness) for advanced users. The camera module is very popular in home security applications and in wildlife camera traps. Now, you have some knowledge about image and pixel. Here are more details of the Raspberry Pi camera module:

  • Pixel size: 1.4um * 1.4 um
  • Picture formats: JPEG (accelerated), JPEG + RAW, GIF, BMP, PNG, YUV420, RGB888
