Silent updates


Instead of using the graphical installer, you can use the Update Installer for WebSphere Software in silent mode to install fixes and features. Below is an overview of the tasks required to implement updates via the silent install process.

Remember, before applying fix packs, install the most recent version of the Update Installer on the WAS server.

Note

When you run the Update Installer, make sure you run it using the same user which was used to install WAS. Otherwise, file ownership issues can arise and will require correction by the root user.

Download the required interim fix, interim feature, or fix pack from the IBM Fix Central site into the<installer_root>/maintenance directory.

A sample response file exists called install.txt and will be located in the<was_root>/ UpdateInstaller/responsefiles directory if you have installed the update installer in the<was_root> directory. Edit the response file, changing any of the fields as required. The following table...
