The migration of a Cacti installation not only consists of copying over files, but also includes the conversion of RRD files and the final tasks involved through the Cacti web-interface. Let's look at the different steps migration needs to take care of.
The first step is the preparation of the Cacti files. You have several options for doing a migration. The simplest one is copying the Cacti files and the more complex one is doing a new Cacti install and executing an upgrade. In both cases, you will have to make sure you copy all the required files, including any scripts or configuration files, which may not reside in the Cacti main directory. Things such as the WMI configuration file may be residing in the /etc
directory, while the spine configuration may be stored in a completely different area.
If you have worked this book and created a backup script already, then you should have a complete list of these files stored in the backup.
