jBPM is open and configurable software. In this chapter, we reviewed three core features of the platform, which are commonly extended when tailoring jBPM systems to meet specific application requirements: domain processes and custom BPMN nodes, custom persistence for process and task variables, and human authorization based on custom implementation or legacy systems. The next chapter will provide the user with real-world jBPM solutions.
