This chapter covered a fair number of ideas to consider and make decisions about, but all of them relate, in some fashion, to what to expect within the code itself. Depending on the specific decisions made around each of these ideas, there may be a fair amount of additional work involved to actually follow through on the chosen standards. That’s quite possible. At the same time, if those standards are agreed upon by all the developer stakeholders for a project, or within a team, even with the additional work involved, the participants will have agreed that the goals being pursued are worthwhile enough to warrant the additional effort.
None of these standards are a one-size-fits-all decision: different teams and different projects can have wildly different priorities, after all, and even those can change over time.
