Summary

In this chapter, we've explored how Kotlin can be used for frontend web development. We saw how Kotlin can target JavaScript, and be transpiled into human-readable JavaScript code that can then be consumed like any other JavaScript. We also discussed how Kotlin can work alongside existing popular JavaScript libraries by using dynamic types, or by generating Kotlin bindings using TypeScript definitions and the ts2kt tool. Finally, we put these concepts together to create a simple Kotlin project that targets JavaScript. This project's resulting JavaScript was loaded into a simple HTML document, and then manipulated programmatically from Kotlin using generated jQuery bindings.
