As mentioned, MDM is a technology that empowers you to centrally manage mobile devices. MDM's framework is developed by Apple and works using the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to send messages from Apple. The notifications by the APNs do not actually contain commands or settings, but instead notify the device to look back at an MDM server, to pull commands that are waiting on the server.

MDM commands can wipe, lock, and perform other tasks on devices. MDM commands can also leverage profiles to configure settings on devices, similar to how we configured settings using Apple Configurator in this chapter. However, when configuring settings via an MDM solution, the profiles are installed over the air. This allows you to change settings daily or based on a device meeting a specific requirement.
