Xcode


Xcode is written and distributed for OS X by Apple. Xcode is used to write apps for both OS X and iOS and it can be used to write scripts in various languages. Xcode also comes with a suite of tools that can be used to debug the apps that you're writing. These tools can also be used to view logs and watch what happens on devices when you're using them.

Xcode is available on the Mac App Store at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12, as you can see in the following screenshot:

Install Xcode from the Mac App Store

In order to install Xcode from the Mac App Store, perform the following steps:

  1. Click on Install and wait for the installation to complete to get Xcode installed on your computer.

  2. Once installed, open Xcode from the /Applications directory.

  3. Choose Devices from the Window menu to see a list of devices that the computer can connect to.

  4. Plug in the device.

  5. Click on your device to see basic information about the device and then click on the View Device Logs button to...
