Cybersecurity Beginner's Guide
By :
In this chapter, we explored the concept of defense in depth and how different layers of security work together to create a robust cybersecurity strategy. We started by examining the foundational elements of a strong cybersecurity defense, comparing them to a castle with multiple layers of protection. From technical controls such as firewalls, IDSs, and encryption to administrative measures such as security policies, employee training, and incident response planning, each layer plays a critical role in defending against cyber threats.
We delved into risk management, learning how to identify, assess, and mitigate risks to minimize their impact on an organization. Finally, we introduced threat modeling as a proactive way to anticipate and prepare for potential attacks, using frameworks such as STRIDE and DREAD to prioritize threats and focus security efforts where they’re needed most.
