Since VMM 2012 R2, Synthetic Fiber Channel has been added to support Guest Fiber Channel in Hyper-V.
The VMM feature, which makes use of the SMI-S provider, allows you to assign a Virtual Fiber Channel Adapter in the guest VM with cut-down zone management.
Virtual Fiber Channel supports single/multiple storage arrays connected to single/multiple fabrics.
Note
Multiple storage arrays connected to multiple fabrics would provide dual-redundant paths to storage arrays.
In order to be able to use Virtual Fiber Channel, confirm that the following are in place:
- SAN, Fiber Channel switches, and HBA NIC's firmware and drivers are up to date
- SAN are configured to present logical units (LUNs)
- SAN SMI-S provider is installed and configured
- NPIV are configured and enabled on the Fiber Channel switches and HBAs
- Hyper-V Servers must be running Windows Server 2012 or newer
- You are logged with an account that is member of the VMM Administrator or a member of the Delegated...
