Overview of this book

This book presents an introductory perspective on how machine learning plays an important role in a VMware environment. It offers a basic understanding of how to leverage machine learning primitives, along with a deeper look into integration with the VMware tools used for automation today. This book begins by highlighting how VMware addresses business issues related to its workforce, customers, and partners with emerging technologies such as machine learning to create new, intelligence-driven, end user experiences. You will learn how to apply machine learning techniques incorporated in VMware solutions for data center operations. You will go through management toolsets with a focus on machine learning techniques. At the end of the book, you will learn how the new vSphere Scale-Out edition can be used to ensure that HPC, big data performance, and other requirements can be met (either through development or by fine-tuning guidelines) with mainstream products.

CEIP

Participation in the VMware CEIP is necessary and is a part of VMware Skyline. As a part of the initial Skyline Collector registration process, it is necessary to join this program. Skyline Collector sends data back to VMware for related product endpoints that are connected with specific product instances for quick support through the CEIP, which is included during the initial configuration or in the configuration page after installation. Customers can opt out of this program by following the de-registration process.

Types of information that are collected

VMware product/service technical data consists of the following:

  • Configuration data: Every customer infrastructure is unique from a design and configuration point of view, even with the same VMware products and services. They have their own use cases, as per their business objectives, and data contains information such as the product's version/edition, deployment related information, settings, and the data logs of all of the devices...
