In this book, we touched on some areas where we can add our own colors or logos, but what if you wanted to give the Open Atrium website a whole makeover? We can do that with a custom subtheme. A subtheme allows us to take advantage of theming information from a parent theme while providing the flexibility to customize various parts of the themes. By using a subtheme, we do not need to reinvent the wheel and create a whole theme from scratch. The Open Atrium community website provides detailed instructions on how to create a subtheme for Open Atrium located at the following URL:
https://community.openatrium.com/documentation-en/node/1961
The basic process for creating a subtheme in Open Atrium is as follows:
1. Create a Ginkgo subtheme.
2. Design custom image overrides.
3. Setup our subthemes directory.
4. Add custom sprites and any other images.
5. Add custom CSS.
The images are fairly easy to customize and we can use sprites to edit a majority of the images at one time. If you are already familiar with Theming in Drupal, then this process should come fairly natural to you. If you are not familiar with Drupal Theming, then you can follow the link given in the preceding paragraph and learn more about custom theming and creating subthemes. For more information refer to the subtheme documentation from the link listed above and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
