You will start off by quickly going through the capabilities of Wordpress. Then you will prepare some groundwork on how to make use of plugins and the GeoPlaces theme to provide geographic and API capabilities to WordPress. Next you will learn how to create an external HTML/CSS/JavaScript that consumes and posts data to your Wordpress blog. More importantly, you will see how to convert this external app into a PhoneGap in as little as five minutes. Finally, you will learn how to apply all these techniques and skills to a Wordpress app based on the Twenty-Ten theme and create a cross-platform mobile app using PhoneGap. Extending our PhoneGap app


In this section, we will truly see the power of jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap. Now, in order to use the code that we have made in the previous section, all we have to do is port it over to our PhoneGap application:

  1. Go to your Eclipse editor and open up the main Java file. If you have been following the instructions up to this point, the name of the file should be HelloWorldMainActivity.java. Change the super.loadUrl("file://android_asset/www/phonegap.html") statement in the code file to super.loadUrl("file://android_asset/www/chapter5.html").

  2. Next, create a new file called chapter5.html in your assets/www folder. Copy and paste the code from app_advanced.html into chapter5.html. Save the file.

  3. Now, there is one important thing to take note of: since we are going to run our code in an Android emulator, we need to change the the URL at which we read the content or post content to our WordPress site. Therefore, change all instances of http://localhost to http://10.0.2.2...
