The core task to enable us to make use of Office 365 for our example company, Lisa Jane Designs, is to configure the domain so we can use it for incoming and outgoing mail, and AutoDiscover purposes.
Before we start, we need access to modify the external DNS settings for our domain, lisajanedesigns.co.uk
. In our example organization, we have a split-DNS setup with an Active Directory integrated zone for lisajanedesigns.co.uk
, so we'll also be applying the changes to the Active Directory zone too.
We'll also need to be prepared to wait for a short time during the steps, as DNS updates can take minutes to hours to propagate. A good rule of thumb when adding DNS entries to an external DNS provider is to add a test record and see how long it takes until it can be resolved. It's also worth double checking any DNS changes before applying them, as correcting mistakes can result in longer waits for the incorrect records to expire.
