Configuring JVM properties plays a very important role in the performance tuning of a Hadoop cluster. In this recipe, we will outline steps to configure the JVM.
We assume that the Hadoop cluster has been properly configured and all the daemons are running without any issues.
Log in from the Hadoop cluster administrator machine to the cluster master node using the following command:
ssh hduser@master
Use the following steps to configure JVM parameters:
Stop the Hadoop cluster with the following command:
stop-all.sh
Open the
$HADOOP_HOME/conf/mapred-site.xml
file and add or change, if it already exists, the following property:<property> <name>mapred.child.java.opts</name> <value>-Xmx512M</value> </property>
