In this chapter, we saw how to build a simple social network. We discussed how to authenticate users and maintain friendship circles. We also discussed how to store posts and comments on posts.
Redis, being very fast at completing the requests, can be best suited for features such as news feeds and status updates. For example, Quora uses Redis to render the front page feeds. Though the system we have designed needs more features to become a fully featured social network, it should provide you with a fair idea about how to use Redis to build a simple social network with all the basic features. With Redis replication and Redis sentinel (under development), it is going to be easier to scale Redis across many machines without the shortcomings of using RAM as the primary storage.
