Understanding the approval engine


The approval engine is responsible for maintaining the approval in Service-Now. The approval engine gives you leverage to modify the properties of the approval as well. On many occasions, the approval activity is read only in the workflow, but you want to use the approval activity in the workflow. In such situations, you can modify the approval engine:

Getting ready

To step through this recipe, you should have an active Service-Now instance, valid credentials, and an admin role.

How to do it...

  1. Open any standard web browser and type the instance address.

  2. Log in to the Service-Now instance using the credentials.

  3. On the left-hand side, type approval.

  4. Select Approval Engines under System Properties:

  5. The Approval Engine has the following options and you can choose the appropriate one for your requirement:

    • Approval Rules: Use Approval Rules to create approvals

    • Process Guides: Use Process Guides to create approvals
