We have now finished this chapter and have seen that Master Data Services contains a multi-level security model that can be used to protect an organization's master data. In particular, we have learnt the following key points:
Security is configured in the User and Group Permissions function of Master Data Manager
A user can log in to MDS if their Windows account, or a Windows group that they are a member of, has been added to MDS
Access can be restricted to each of the five functions of Master Data Manager.
There is only one System Administrator in MDS, which is the user specified in the installation process
A Model Administrator can access all data in the model, as well as being able to change the Model structure
All of the objects within a model can be secured by setting a user or group's access to Update, Read-only or Deny
Members can also be secured, but only on Explicit and Derived Hierarchies, through the use of the Hierarchy Members tab
