Adding the software iSCSI adapter


The software iSCSI adapter is not created by default. It has to be manually created and enabled. In this recipe, we will learn how to enable the software iSCSI adapter. There can only be one software iSCSI adapter per ESXi server.

How to do it...

The following procedure will help you to create and enable the software iSCSI adapter:

  1. Connect to vCenter using the vSphere Web Client and, at the inventory Home, click on Hosts and Clusters:

  2. Highlight an ESX server and navigate to Manage | Storage | Storage Adapters:

  3. Click on the + icon and select Software iSCSI adapter:

  4. Click on OK to confirm the addition of a software iSCSI adapter:

  5. You should see the following two tasks complete in the Recent Tasks pane:

    • Open firewall ports

    • Change Software Internet SCSI Status

  6. Once done, the software iSCSI adapter will be listed under Storage Adapters:

  7. The iSCSI adapter is Enabled by default when it is created:
