Summary

This chapter covered the vSphere native tools that can be used to monitor performance and other optimization techniques in a virtual environment.

Monitoring is a critical task to the improvement of the virtual environment and the workloads for performance and efficiency. This chapter focused on monitoring different critical resources, such as computing, storage, and networking, across ESXi hosts, resource pools, and clusters.

To better understand your environment, you should consider deploying a centralized log and event solution or performance monitoring solutions, such as vRealize Log Insight or vRealize Operations. We have also covered other monitoring solutions that you should check as well.

In the next chapter, we will focus on troubleshooting your virtual data center using different tools and techniques.
