Summary

In this chapter, we looked at XAI to understand what it is and why it is so important, especially within the context of black-box AI models. We also saw how, due to the increasing complexity of these models, XAI is somewhat inevitable. Following that, we also looked at various case studies, some of which were rather eye-opening, especially when considering that AI is being augmented in every aspect of our lives. Finally, we presented a non-exhaustive list of XAI methodologies. The models shown were the most popular and representative of various novel approaches in the field of XAI.

In the next chapter, we will look at a new breed of powerful AI models that are also inherently explainable. Because of this, we will look at neuro-symbolic AI and how it promises to address the issues mentioned so far.
