Architectures for the Intelligent AI-Ready Enterprise
By :
This chapter traced the evolution of AI from its origins in the 1950s to today’s sophisticated GenAI systems. We explored the fundamental components powering modern AI applications, including LLMs, embedding models that transform data into vectors, and the semantic search capabilities that enable AI reasoning.
We clarified the distinctions between semantic search (understanding meaning in queries), RAG (enhancing LLMs with external context), hybrid search approaches (combining semantic and keyword matching), and agentic AI systems (autonomous decision-making). More importantly, we examined how these components build upon each other to create increasingly sophisticated capabilities.
Throughout these advancements, modern data platforms have played a crucial role in enabling AI innovation. Choosing the right data platform, one that is flexible, scalable, and natively supports these diverse AI workloads, from vector search to complex data models for agentic memory...
