Creating and configuring buffer pools

A default buffer pool, IBMDEFAULTBP, is created when you create any database. As IBMDEFAULTBP is treated as a system object, it cannot be dropped. You may, and should create other buffer pools to optimize memory use.

Getting ready

A default buffer pool, IBMDEFAULTBP, is created when you create any database. As ' is treated as a system object, it cannot be dropped.

Each table space is associated with a buffer pool, when you create a table space. This IBMDEFAULTBP buffer pool will be used if you do not specify one.

Tip

You should create the buffer pools first, before creating your table spaces.

Get your Operating System's memory configuration and database software's capacity. Determine if you want to use self memory tuning on this database, or manual memory tuning. As you will associate table spaces to buffer pools, it is important to match the buffer pool page size to the page size of the table space.

How to do it...
