Modifying a symbol


Making changes to a symbol is easy, but there are a few ways to do it. We will look at them in a moment.

Page by page

This method will allow you to make changes to a symbol on a page-by-page basis. For example, open project_mockup_1.bmml and double-click on the header.

You should now see a green bar across the top of the canvas, as shown in the following screenshot:

In this state, your symbol is fully editable, but any changes you make will apply only to this particular instance.

Note

The number in the green bar (#83 in this example), is an ID number that Balsamiq creates automatically. This number becomes part of the page's file data and can be referenced during development, if needed. While developing with Balsamiq is outside the scope of this book, I thought you might want to know.

All pages

To change a symbol across multiple pages, you have to look at the other side of the green bar and click on the Edit button, as shown in the following screenshot:
