It's this kind of explosive growth that makes the BlackBerry ecosystem a great place to develop and market applications through the BlackBerry App World store—this book shows you how to do just that! This step-by-step guide gives you a hands-on experience of developing innovative Java applications for your BlackBerry. With the help of this book, you will learn to build your own applications to illustrate the platform, and the various capabilities that developers can use in their programs. Summary

Wow, that was a lot of fields that we covered in this chapter. Obviously, a lot of thought and planning went into creating all of these Field classes and the features available are both wide and powerful.

In this chapter, we covered:

  • Advanced Field classes such as ListField, TreeField, and ButtonField

  • Discussed the UI stack and how to display and navigate between multiple screens

  • Covered dialogs and their various forms for collecting information

  • Learned about listeners and callbacks

  • Examined the specifics surrounding programming with a touchscreen

Now that you've covered all of these different Field types it's time to start looking at some of the other systems on a BlackBerry. Most applications have other requirements beyond just a nice user interface. Another important part of an application is the ability to store data once the application is closed. There are several options for this available in the BlackBerry SDK and the next chapter will dive into each of them in more detail.
