Odoo is a full-featured open source ERP with a focus on extensibility. The flexibility and sustainability of open source are also a key selling point of Odoo. It is built on a powerful framework for rapid application development, both for back-end applications and front-end websites. Version 11 offers better usability and speed: a new design (as compared to the current Odoo Enterprise version) and a mobile interface. Addon updates and data migration

The data model you choose when writing an addon module might turn out to have some weaknesses, so you may need to adjust it during the life cycle of your addon module. In order to allow that without a lot of hacks, Odoo supports versioning in addon modules and running migrations if necessary.

We assume that in an earlier version of our module, the date_release field was a character field, where people wrote whatever they saw fit as the date. Now we realize that we need this field for comparisons and aggregations, which is why we want to change its type to Date.
