Summary

This chapter reviewed the Aggregator pattern, a critical design approach for managing interactions between microservices. It highlighted the challenges of direct client-to-microservice communication, such as increased latency, complex client-side logic, and tightly coupled dependencies, particularly in systems such as healthcare applications. These issues are mitigated by introducing an aggregator service, and the complexity is shifted from the UI to a central service, streamlining data consolidation and interaction.

We began with a theoretical overview of the pattern, outlining its role in simplifying communication by mediating between the UI and multiple microservices. This approach centralizes error handling, enhances security by reducing the exposure of individual microservices, and improves performance by reducing the number of API calls required by the client.
