As a Service

Cloud providers offer different kinds of services. SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS are some of the most popular/well-known cloud offerings:

  • Software as a service (SaaS): This is software that you can access immediately. You don’t have to install or maintain it yourself. This gets done for you automatically.
  • Platform as a service (PaaS): You can complete environments that you can use like development tools, database management, operating systems, and so on. You can fully focus on building the application.
  • Infrastructure as a service (IaaS): This offers computing, storage, and networking resources you can use. The cloud provider manages the infrastructure while you maintain the operating systems, development tools, and your application.

You are not restricted to using only one type of service, many companies use combined services to best fit their use cases.
