In this chapter, we had an overview of the role of business process modeling for SOA. We outlined the importance of BPM. We saw that IT and business processes are closely related. SOA along with BPM provides a huge opportunity to align business processes with IT better, and make the whole company more efficient and successful.

We had an overview of the BPM life cycle, which consists of business process design, process implementation, process execution and control, and process optimization. We focused on process design, where we explained the methodologies and notations. We discussed ARIS methodology and BPMN notation. We also explained what the results of business process design should be, such as process map, roles, relations, etc. We also discussed process simulation in brief.
